Input Field Types

Before we talk about the Input fields, we'll just explain a few things about the types of Input Fields (for novice Windows users.)

The space provided for you to input data (names addresses, values etc) in the booking screen is called a field.

There are several types of input fields...

Text Fields:  For plain text entry. Names etc.

Drop-Down Lists: Lists are filled with pre-defined data. All you have to do is press enter when the field is selected, using the keyboard up-down arrows to select the preset value and then press enter again. Some of the pick lists, like the Market Codes List, get their data from other files. The Availability List, shown when you leave a site number blank after selecting a site type, are calculated lists. UniRes determines the data for the list.

Tick Boxes: Usually skipped during data entry. You have to use your mouse to change the state of the tick box.

Memo Fields: These fields look like the plain text entry boxes, but behave differently. Memo fields, like the Notes field in the Extended Booking Details section, allow unlimited text entry. As the field fills up past the lower boundary of the field, a scroll bar will be shown in the list to indicate that more data is in the field.

Using Scroll Bars

Like the scroll bars you see in other Windows screens, the moving button is called a thumbnail slider. The slider shows the relevant position of the text you are viewing with respect to the overall size of the text. You can click and drag the thumbnail slider up and down to show text. The easiest way to move up and down the text is to click between the thumbnail slider and the lower or upper arrows at the top and bottom of the slider bar area. The page is then moved a full page up or down.

Date Fields: All of the date fields allow you enter a date (in Australian date format with the full century) by just typing in the date. The field is pre-formatted with /'s so all you need to do is enter say 21022003 for 21st Feb 2003. When the last digit is entered, the input will go to the next field, so no need to press the enter key. If you are just changing part of the date before the year value, you will have to press enter fo rthe system to accept the date.

Invalid Dates: If you enter an invalid date eg. 31/10/2003, you will not be able to proceed without correcting the date. An Invalid Date message is displayed.

Date Picker: Most of the date input fields in UniRes have a date picker function. To activate a calendar to pick a date, enter a ? into the field or right-click on the date date field.

Use the < and > buttons to move 1 month back or forward. Use the << and >> buttons to move 1 year back or forward.

Click on the day required.

+ and - keys

When a date field has a preset date in it, you can also use the + and - keys on the keyboard numeric pad, to increment and decrement the date by one day.

Time Field: Enter time in 24 Hr format, eg . 3pm = 15:00  6pm = 18:00
